Project Brief

This innovative centre demonstrates our capability to deliver complex facilities that balance stringent technical requirements with thoughtful place-making. Providing a biophilic environment that supports staff wellbeing, it integrates advanced research facilities with a public-facing education and visitor centre. At its heart is a BC2-accredited laboratory designed for training and controlled research. Clear separation between visitor and staff zones enables controlled interaction while maintaining safety, engagement and efficient operational workflows. An 80-seat training space facilitates high-tech, interactive and hands-on learning.

Key Considerations

  • Designing a BC2-accredited laboratory with controlled access, containment and biosecurity requirements
  • Streamlining operational workflows while maintaining strict safety, hygiene and compliance standards
  • Developing systems for hazardous material handling and waste management
  • Incorporating clean rooms, emergency facilities and hygienic finishes throughout controlled areas
  • Designing robust interfaces between public, education and research zones
  • Coordinating complex building services including specialist mechanical services to support laboratory, training and visitor functions
  • Creating a high-quality biophilic environment through sensory gardens and outdoor learning spaces
